Milford's Magic is also about involving the whole community in developing and spreading the brand. To that end, we will hold a continuous series of contests to help find great designs for products and services that can be branded Milford. We're starting with our own logo. It's up for grabs right now.

Milford's Magic Logo Contest

$500 Cash Prize

Exclusively for high school students in Pike County
Create a visually appealing and easily recognizable logo/icon for the boro of Milford, much as Apple’s Apple, AT&T’s globe, or New York’s I (heart) NY. Used in conjunction with the words "Milford's Magic", the combined logo will appear on ads, commercials, posters, brochures, and store windows.

Logo: a graphical element (ideogram, symbol, emblem, icon, sign) that, together with its logotype (a uniquely set and arranged typeface) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, a logo’s design is for immediate recognition. The logo is one aspect of a company’s commercial brand, or economic or academic entity, and its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are different from others in a similar market. Logos are also used to identify organizations and other non-commercial entities.

Deliverable:
-Capture the essence of Milford in a design element (icon) and pair it with the words “Milford’s Magic” (logotype). Create a visual image based on your concept.
-Design must be sizeable (shrinkable, expandable), preferably vector artwork for computer software. Hand drawn work is also acceptable.
-The best designs are simple, stylish and memorable. (Think of the Apple logo.)
-Color is of great importance. Your design should implement the colors of the four seasons or colors that display your concept. These designs are going to be reproduced in color. The use of rainbows or prism spectrums is not allowed due to reproduction processes.
-The icon of the logo should be placed on the left on the logotype and preferably, the icon should hold a circular shape with the art contained within.

Computer Use:
The use of computer software is highly recommended to create an easy to use and reproducible logo. Software demos can be found online for the program of your choosing. Please consult your parents, guardians, or teacher before downloading software. (Adobe is the leading software maker for design related projects. With popular titles such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Other programs are available such as Gimp, FreeHand, Corel Draw, Corel Paint, Jasc Paint, etc. Make sure the software you choose is from the manufacturers site and download with caution.)

Related Research:
Utilize the internet and/or publications to examine logo design traits and common subject related design. Many resources are free and easy to access. (i.e. arnell.com - designer of the new Pepsi logo and campaign.)
